Overview:
Thermal water in the Budapest area has been used at least since the ancient Roman times. The first modern open-air bath of Budapest, the Palatinus, opened on Margaret Island in 1921. At the time Palatinus had the largest pool in all of Europe. New indoor areas were created with the reconstruction: a cute pool for kids, one with thermal water for the adults, and some new saunas with an ice cold immersion pool. Boost up that circulation!
This is a great place to spend a day or an afternoon with kids to take a break from sightseeing. If you are walking, walk across Margit Hid (Margaret Bridge) and there is a road 1/2 way across the bridge leading directly to the island. Walk down to the fountain and then take the road to the left of the fountain and walk about a mile to the Palatinus Center. You can also pay for a trolley car to take you or a bike taxi. Make sure the trolley car is one that stops at the various sites around the island. There is one that is a nonstop tour only. There are lockers, showers, and food options available as well as places to purchase towels, sunscreen etc.

A lot of swimming pools to have fun and relax. It's ok for all the family, the kids will enjoy but also the parents. We stayed at summer time and it was not so crowded. It's huge so there are plenty options to enjoy around. You can not miss it if you are travelling with the family. Totally recommend to spend at least an afternoon there.

Palatinus has it all - the space, the fun slides, the beautiful and various pools, half day tickets, amazing ice coffees, good and affordable easy meals, children friendly and thermal. Open all year round but perfect for the summer. Go early if you want a lounge chair, they go fast!
