Overview:
Thermal water in the Budapest area has been used at least since the ancient Roman times. The first modern open-air bath of Budapest, the Palatinus, opened on Margaret Island in 1921. At the time Palatinus had the largest pool in all of Europe. New indoor areas were created with the reconstruction: a cute pool for kids, one with thermal water for the adults, and some new saunas with an ice cold immersion pool. Boost up that circulation!
A really great lido on the quiet island of St Margaret which is good for adults as well as families with children. One can experience the thermal baths whilst the children are enjoying one of the outdoor or indoor pools. Definitely not to miss!

Palatinus strand is an massive complex of pools, baths, and even water slides on Margaret Island. Although you'll find it under lists of Budapest 'baths', it is not a traditional bath experience. It is much closer to being a Hungarian water park. You will find lap pools, wave pools, heated pools with built in, underwater benches, and even several waterslides! It's a great activity for a hot summer day, especially with a family.

Must with kids! We have been to Pala ( called by locals ) a few times before. It is a huge area with many pools with different water temperature, great big lawn area to play, sun-bake and relax. It also has two waterslides and some other fun water activities. It is a nice way to spend a lazy day by the water and then have a walk on the island or hire some sort of bicycle to look around. If you plan to spend the day there with family I would recommend to get a changing room for the family but bring towels etc otherwise they change for all of those extra. Also recommended to hire a locker and lock all your valuable as unfortunately there are some thieves floating around looking for the naive easy targets. Pala is located on Margaret Island ( Margitsziget ). You can get to Margaret Island from either end ( Margit Bridge or Petofi Bridge ) and once you are on the Island there is - during summer - a free little Pala open train ( like a chu chu train ) to take you there. The driver wears a white shirt. Do not mistake this train with the little train that takes you around the island for a fee. I gave it 4 star due to the thieves who are there but do not be scared just lock valuable up and do yourself a favour and enjoy!
