Thermal water in the Budapest area has been used at least since the ancient Roman times. The first modern open-air bath of Budapest, the Palatinus, opened on Margaret Island in 1921. At the time Palatinus had the largest pool in all of Europe. New indoor areas were created with the reconstruction: a cute pool for kids, one with thermal water for the adults, and some new saunas with an ice cold immersion pool. Boost up that circulation!
Important Information
- Your ticket is including a locker, where you can leave your valuables
- Please bring your own towels and slippers, at the spa they can not provide them
- If you like to use the swimming pool, please bring your own swimming cap
The Palatinus (or Pala as it called by the locals) is a great place to go when it is hot, you have kids and you need to get away from the tourist sites. A large swimming pool complex (with wave machine) and lots of local eateries. Come and watch how the locals relax on a hot Saturday afternoon.

After reading a number of reviews for other Baths in the City we were put off to the fact we had two young children. This Bath hit the spot. The Childrens pool was a brilliant temperature and the kids loved it. The outdoor pool was brilliant too and accommodating for children. Some of the pool inside were not Children friendly.Lots of outside pools were closed for the winter but can only get better in the summer
Thank you so much for your kind review!
Nice place, also in wintertime. Not crowded at all, quiet and cozy. The stuff is quite friendly, although hardly anybody speaks English, or whatever understandable language. We liked really huge swimming pool, great if you really feel like having some workout. Saunas quite small, but ok. The one I really recommend is aroma sauna. We also liked the neighbourhood - a nice park area ideal for walking or cycling.
